FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Can I buy a range hood directly from Imperial?

NO. We do not compete with our approved dealers. There is a store locator on the top of our website.

You can buy parts directly from Imperial i.e. filters, switches, motors and knobs.

Can I wash my filters?

YES. Aluminum Mesh filters or Stainless Steel Baffle filters can be sprayed with Simple Green

or 409 and run through HOT water or run through the dishwasher without any detergent or drying agent.

Stainless steel baffles can be polished with a stainless steel cleaner after washing.

Charcoal filters can NOT be washed. You will need to purchase a new pair.

Can I combine two ducts into one?

It is not recommended that you combine two ducts into one as this will VOID the performance part of your warranty.

It can reduce your CFM by aproximately 25%.

Can I put a power cord on my unit?

NO. The units are to be hardwired on a dedicated circuit. These units are NOT UL approved with a power cord.

Adding a power cord will VOID the warranty.

Can I put an outside damper on the duct exit?

Our units come with a damper already in the hood. If you choose to use an outside damper, then you must

remove the damper on our unit because they will compete with each other.

Can I use an elbow in my duct run?

Avoid using elbows if at all possible as this will reduce your performance. Elbows will reduce CFM which will affect the

performance of your unit. There wiil be no Performance Warranty.

What happens if an elbow is used?

There could be possible back pressure, loss of CFM and the motor could overheat and shut off for safety.

Replacement Bulbs for 50 Watt Halogen?

Our older models came with 50 Watt Halogen bulbs.  For replacements you can use a lower wattage halogen bulb.

The Bulb is a PAR20 FLOOD, MEDIUM BASE.  If you choose to go with an LED compatible bulb, it will protrude

from the light socket 1/3 of an inch from the light panel.

Why do my knobs keep falling off?

Inside our knob is a set screw that can become loose over time causing the knob to fall off.  You can tighten the

set screw with a 1.5 mm Allen wrench.  If the set screw falls out you will need to purchase a new knob.

You can purchase knobs directly from Imperial.

FOUR KEYS TO CHOOSING THE CORRECT RANGE HOOD:

1.       Identify how much CFM (power) you need.

CFM is a measurement of power. It stands for “Cubic Feet per Minute”.

Our general guideline recommends that your CFM should be equal to 1% of the Total BTU output of your Cooktop. You should also check the CFM recommendation of your Cooktop manufacturer.

2.       Identify what type/style of hood works for your kitchen application.

We manufacture Ventilator Inserts, Wall Hoods, Under Cabinet Hoods and Island Hoods.

Ventilator Inserts are made to fit into cabinetry or a canopy that exists in your kitchen.

Wall hoods attach directly to your kitchen wall.

Under Cabinet hoods attach to the underneath side of your kitchen cabinetry.

Island hoods are made to attach to the ceiling above a Kitchen Island equipped with a cooktop.

3.   Identify what size hood your application requires.

Your range hood should cover the burners of your cooktop in order to be effective.  Taking the width and depth of your Cooktop into consideration will help you choose the appropriate size range hood.

Cooktops range in size from 30” to 48”.  Depths can vary by manufacturer.  Height of the range hood must also be considered.

4.       Identify what height Range Hood your kitchen can accommodate.

We recommend mounting our hoods between 30” to 36” above the cooktop. Calculating the height of this distance above your cooktop will inform you of what height range hood will work for you.

HOW YOU CALCULATE THE DUCT COVER HEIGHT:

The Duct Cover height is determined by the ceiling height, counter height, mounting height, and Range Hood height. Once you have all this information use the formula below.

Duct Cover Height Calculation Formula:

Ceiling Height  minus

Counter Height  minus

Distance between Cook-Top and bottom surface of Range Hood (30" to 36") minus

Range Hood Height  minus

equals Duct Cover Height

MOUNTING HEIGHT ABOVE THE COOKING SURFACE:

We recommend mounting your Range Hood between 30" and 36" above your cooktop. Anything higher or lower will affect the performance and our performance warranty is voided.

INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS:

What is the duct run like once it exits your kitchen?  Is it short and straight or does it take twists and turns before it exits the home?

Our hoods are tested for performance with a maximum 20' run. Each turn adds to the duct runs over all length. The first turn will add about 5' to the run, the second will add 7' to 10'. A third turn will add 12' to 15'. We recommend no more than two turns in any duct run. Whenever possible those turn should be 45 degrees instead of 90 degrees. You cut the added duct length approximately in half if you use 45 degree turns instead of 90 degree turns. Do not decrease the size of the ducting, this will cause back pressure and interfere with air flow. If you are going to use rectangular ducting be sure it measures at least 3" x 12".

What type of pipe should be used?

The ONLY type of pipe that should be used is galvanized steel pipe with no ridges.

Flexible pipe or dryer pipe should never be used.

Dampers

It is NOT recommended to use 2 dampers during installation. You have the option to use an external damper or the existing damper already on the unit, but DO NOT use both.

MAINTENANCE

RANGE HOOD CLEANING: When cleaning a painted hood, wash it with mild, soapy water ONLY! Wipe the hood thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.  When cleaning a Stainless Steel hood use a cleaner specifically for Stainless Steel.  Always rub with the grain using non-abrasive cleaning materials.  AVOID detergents, disinfectants or cleaning products in aerosol cans.  NEVER use abrasive scouring powders on your hood!  Some cleaning chemicals may damage the hood finish!

When cleaning Matte Black or Matte White hoods use warm water and mild soap.

BAFFLE FILTER CLEANING: To remove Baffle Filters, remove center panel by pulling panel toward the front of the hood, lift up to remove. Move filters to the center of the hood, pull baffle towards the front of the hood and lift out. To remove grease tray, slide tray to the top of the hood and lift out. Grease will accumulate in grease tray. Clean with hot water and polish with stainless steel cleaner.

SLIM BAFFLE & ALUMINUM MESH FILTER CLEANING: Clean filters often for the best performance.  How often depends on your cooking style. Use hot water and a degreaser to clean. May be cleaned in the dishwasher through the RINSE cycle ONLY.  Some Detergents or Drying Agents may discolor filters. For Slim Baffles polish baffle side with stainless steel cleaner.
